Stereotypically, Ireland is associated with Irish Dancing, Guiness and the popular television comedy Father Ted and this has given it an an internationalidentity similar to Haggis, Bagpipes and Tartan has given toScotland. This is not a bad thing, but if you look deeper you will be pleasantly surprised at what both Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland have to offer in culture, architecture, history and modern living. Ireland is full of friendly and helpful people and is worth the time and effort to explore.
Northern Ireland
Known for many impressive attractions, such as the Giants Causeway, Norther Ireland continues to be an interesting and popular tourist destination. Good pubs, Victorian architecture and spectacular coastal scenery are things that make it a great place to visit. Northern Ireland became independant in 1921 and is divided up into six counties all with much to see, do and learn about. To find out more please visit the Belfast and North section.
Republic Of Ireland
Events play a large part in the Republic Of Ireland and are all year round, with St Patrick's Day (17 March) a key event in any local or visitors calender, and of course celebrated all over the world. Galway has an Arts Festival in July and in late May or early June, Laytown is home to Horse Racing on the sand.
The Republic of Ireland joined the European Union in 1973 and is a Euro friendly country, with Dublin at the heart of the transportation with the islands main ferry terminal, rail and airport here, and also the starting point of most on a cultural and historical tour through places such as Cork, Galway and Limerick.

As you can see from the map, Ireland consists of Norther Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Belfast is the main industrial city of both parts of Ireland, and Dublin is probably the most visited city on the island. The coast line is rugged but picturesque, great for landscape photographers and lovers of the sea.
